So it's been a year since I last posted stuff... I'm bad at this whole updating thing. I'll try to do it more often. So what's been happening? Well, I dropped Software Engineering and spent a year studying Graphic Design at Algonquin, and it's fantastic! I love it. I am so glad I made the change, and I can't believe how much I improved! You'll all see when I upload some stuff - hopefully soon.

I also moved twice since my last journal entry. A few months after that entry (in july) I moved out of my parents' house and in with my boyfriend Alex, as well as 6 other roommates. Oh the insanity! Nah just kidding, it was pretty cool, and super cheap. The second time was last week, I moved in a small apartment with (again) my boyfriend and our best friend. It's awesome! We all get along so well, and it's so much better than being with tons of other people.

So now we're still getting settled in, but this summer I'm planning on so many art projects - oh god! It's going to be fun. Also making a nice webpage, something I can put on my resume so people can see the type of work I do. I'll link everything here :p

Things with my boy are fabulous. It's funny, because when I think back to when we got together two years ago, I thought then that it would be a short-lived fling. Ha! I'm glad I was wrong! We have one of the healthiest relationships I know of, and it's a nice change from everything I've had in the past - same goes for him. We're very happy. He always surprises me with how sweet he can be, since publicly he's very outspoken and shocks people with his politically incorrect humour. It's great.

I just found out while browsing on DA that someone else is using a few shots I took in their gallery. Actually, it's my ex, using pictures I took when we went on that trip to Tunisia. His gallery doesn't have a great turn-out so I don't really want to confront him and, well, talk to him at all actually. I'm probably going to let that go. I was just a bit surprised at first.

In unrelated news, we started jogging, following the couch to 5k plan (google it, it's a great plan) and oh god I'm out of shape. But we're keeping at it, and in a month, we're starting weight training. I'm so psyched!

Well that's enough for now. Oh yeah and a great game to play is Persona 3 on the ps2, awesome awesomeness. Get it!!! (if you can find it :p)

Portfolio update extravaganza

Ongoing!!!

Right now I put up the really nice figure study of Alex, and a feet study, both of which I'm pretty proud of. Ongoing are hands, self-portrait, perspective, and other non-portfolio related things, such as a Rayman Ravid Rabbids derived painting, and an autumn gryphon. Whoo!

Updated my ID as well. I like the picture, I look cool. With my red hair and pigtails and earphones, oh yeah, I'm rockin' the red lipstick and loving it!

I also discovered the almighty Print function, which is more available to me than I thought. Put up a few things as print, hopefully one or two people will get something and then I'll have enough DAmoney (or whatever) to order my own stuff! Support the starving artists! I'm especially hoping for my Porto di Pozzuoli to catch on as a postcard (I believe I put it up as such) as well as the largely-loved Josh's Dragon Tattoo, which I put up as all kind of nifty things like mousepad and magnet and such.

I'm working on a custom skateboard online shop (hosted on boardpusher, great site) of which I'll post the link as soon as it's up and running! Some of the faculty of engineering here are going to get some custom skateboards (ERTW) with barely any money made by yours truly, if only because I like engineers. But I'll be doing tons of custom work for not much over the basic price, so anyone can get an uber-cool skateboard like Alex did (cow-chainsaw-kitty). Bonus points if you're from online communities I frequent (DA and SA are basically it though), other people will get a bit of a higher mark-up, but I'm keeping my prices low. I know most skaters aren't rich!

Well that's it for now. Still drawing, still working, exams coming soon (oh woot) and maybe I'll finally get my G2 driver's license!!! OH YEAH!

Portfolio stuff soon!

So... I know I don't update this often, but lately, I've been extremely busy. I've got a new awesome job, which in truth doesn't take much of my time, really. I have quite a bit of homework and studying even though I have only a few classes this semester. The one thing that really takes up my time, however, is drawing. I have three portfolio to prepare. One of them, the one for Fine Arts, is probably just going to be all the pieces from the two others put together, since it doesn't have guidelines, but the two others... oh my. For Graphic Design, I need to do a big self-portrait and an ad layout for a jewelery store, both detailed enough to take hours to do. It has a ton of other guidelines, but not as much as the Animation one. That one requires me to draw a lot of feet, hands, people sitting, people laying down, gestures, cartoons, perspective drawings, and different angles of the same scene. Ugh. I'm halfway done all of this. I have an awesome page of feet and hands, as well as a really damn nice drawing of Alex lying down watching tv. It's one of my best piece yet I think. So yeah, I'll have a lot of really cool stuff to upload as soon as I have enough time to set up the scanner and fire up photoshop to make them all fit for DA.

Apart from that... Today is Alex's and my first year anniversary <3. I'm so happy. I've got an awesome gift for him, and he keeps telling me he has an awesome gift for me, so it's probably going to be really cool as soon as he gets to my place. Then we're spending the weekend in Vankleek Hill (where his family lives) because it's his dad's birthday. I'm foreseeing a lot of drawing during that weekend, since I'll be away from all my distractions. (Although Alex is probably my biggest distraction...)

Another thing, Alex and I bought some Hermit Crabs!!! They're so adorable! Mine is about 1/2 an inch big, while his is 1 inch. Mine is steel-colored while his is a nice tan colour. They're both Ecuadorian crabs, so they have big googly eyes. They're so goofy. They climb all over anything we put into the tank, and dig through the thick layer of sand. They dig freakin' tunnels! They're also such a weird pet that anyone that comes in the apartment is fascinated with them, and half of them leave wanting some of their own. We might get two more ourselves, but we'd need a bigger tank. I'll upload some pictures of Fib (Fibonacci, that's mine) and Waaaagh (Alex's) pretty soon, probably this weekend.

So yeah, things are really good. I feel much better mentally as well, since I took the decision to ditch Software Engineering and go for art. A lot of people exclaimed "About time!" when I told them, they seem to know something I don't... My only fear about that was that I would have trouble getting a good job, but I decided that if I got into Fine Art (my first choice), I'd do a double major with French-English Traduction. I'm also fluent in Italian so I'm sure I'll get awesome jobs with that when I'll get out of University. As for Graphic Design and Animation... I think they'll be enough to get a good job, since they're college diplomas and much more hands-on.

Well this is what's going on these days... Pretty good stuff. I'll upload all my new awesome drawings as soon as I have the time, which shouldn't be too much longer. Weeee!

New, new, new!

New stuff!

I've been doing a bit more art these days, inspiration abounds but time does not. I'm uploading quite a few things, mainly portraits that I'm doing in preparation for my portfolio. Wait, a portfolio? Yep, I'm going to apply to Fine Arts next year. Not that I don't like Software Engineering, but I'm going to take two years off that excruciating program, get my art degree, and go back, finish my eng degree. With those two with me, I think I'll be able to do any jobs I have my eye on right now. I'll be free to choose between software design, art director, video games character designer, whatever! I have a new job that's pretty good, nice pay low stress good environment, so I don't think I'll be lacking the money for those two extra years of schooling. It's also somewhat related to software development so I'll have experience! Woot!

Apart from that... I'm planning on being much more active on here. You'll probably see a lot more pieces popping up every now and then instead of the months-long dry spells I went through in the last two years or so. I have a thousand projects in mind and I'm not planning to give up anytime soon!

Still alive

Tue Jul 11, 2006, 6:39 PM
Long time no uploads, I know I know.

A few updates on life right now first.

I am now unemployed and happy to be. I quit my retail job in exchange for my sanity, I think I got the good end of that deal. I've also got a new boy (no riots plzktnx) which was a pretty radical change, but it was for the best. I'm setting some things straight with myself and other people, and I'm coming out as a much happier person. I'm also taking a summer class, got the exam on the 22nd, but after that I'll probably get a bit of art done.

As for art... hmm... I haven't been a very good deviant. Haven't touched a paintbrush without the intent of painting warhammer 40K figures in probably 6-8 months. I haven't written a single noteworthy short story in about the same time. I've written some weird poetry, which I'm debating whether to post here (they're mostly in broken italian so I'm thinking no), and I'm starting to get some ideas for short stories. I've looked through my gallery lately and I want to dump at least half of it in scraps. I know I'm capable of so doing so much better if I set my mind to it. So that's the plan for the rest of the summer: get some GOOD art done. Got a few ideas for sculptures too, that'll be interesting. Hopefully, if I write a good short story, I'll look to get it published or something.

Anyone got any tips as far as publishing visual art - be it photography (I picked up my old SLR - go me), painting, or tattoo designs? Any tips would be great.
